Oriental Poppies

I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn't say any other way - things I had no words for.
Georgia O'Keeffe

Georgia O'Keeffe is well known for her large paintings of flowers. The way she explained it, she painted flowers outside of normal scale so that people would be surprised by them, and would view them with fresh eyes. She painted flowers simply, so that they could be viewed as pure color and pure form.  Georgia O'Keeffe is often referred to as a pioneering "Modernist", as her unique perspective and approach defied all of the accepted norms of painting at that time.  Oriental Poppies is one of her most famous paintings - completed in 1928 - and declared a groundbreaking, art masterpiece.

Our first Just Babs kit will focus on Georgia O'Keeffe and most specifically, the Oriental Poppies painting she is so famous for.
